I had the front axle on my 4WD JD855 rebuilt last year when a bearing failed. Essentially all the bearings and gears were replaced during that rebuild. The lube was changed following the rebuild after 10 hrs of use. I again changed the lube this fall and there was a noticable quantity of fine metal particles in the drained lube. Has anyone observed this in your unit? How much is too much?

Don, normally during any assembly process you have the potential top get shavings left in the cases. Were there any shavings in the oil at the 10 hour drain? What are the shavings, are they brass or steel? Are you getting noises from the front end now? If you have a loader use it to raise the front of the tractor and see if it's making any unusal sounds when you spin the wheels. be sure to notify the repair shop that did the work for you. I would definitely try changing the oil more frequently to see if this persists. art ....

DonI had some shavings in the trany (on the sreen filter) on a 755 & took it to my john deere service dept. The mannager could tell were it came from by the color, size & shape of fragments. He considered it normal wear, nothing to worry about.I hope you have the same luck! ....
